The Victoria Playhouse Festival closed its 2015 season with a sell-out run of Cathy Jones” latest show Stranger to Hard Work. Quirky, thought provoking, funny and clever. We also were introduced to comedian Chris Gibbs, who opened for Cathy. We hope to see them both back again soon.
Rope”s End by Douglas Bowie held the stage from August 8 to September 6. Actors Johanna Nutter and Jody Racicot reeled us in to a romantic comedy that took many twists and turns and always kept us guessing. Playwright Doug visited Victoria and saw the production. He, Johanna and Jody held a talkback following the performance he attended.
Director Ted Price from Prince George, BC chose a winner in Sexy Laundry by Michelle Riml which opened the season on June 28. Martha Irving and Rob MacLean played the married couple with smarts, compassion and humour, and our patrons loved their performances. Scenic designer Scott MacConnell provided the beautiful hotel room where all the action took place.
Musical Mondays opened on July 6th with ukelele playing singer-songwriter James Hill and his cello playing partner Anne Jannelle. What followed was an eclectic spirited line-up of Monday concerts including PEI”s Americana artist, Nudie, the world music group Lalun, the spitfire Irish Mythen, our own Catherine MacLellan and Chris Gauthier, Cape Breton”s young upstarts Coig and the iconic Ron Hynes.
We had a great season – and our hope is that you were in the audience at least once to share it with us. Come back soon, for an announcement about the 2016 season.
