Our theatre by the sea is just one of the many gems you’ll unearth during your visit to the historic village of Victoria by the Sea.
Located on PEI’s south shore, just 20 km from the Confederation Bridge, our small community is comprised of fishers, farmers, makers, food folk, artists and residents with varied backgrounds and interesting life stories.
Wander by Foot
We highly recommend you arrive in Victoria well before the curtain call to explore. Park your car and give your legs a stretch – the village is entirely walkable by foot.
Often described as charming or enchanting, our tiny hamlet is both of these things and so much more. Take time to wander and soak up the sights and sounds and you’ll understand what we mean.
Stroll along the historic streets and pop into the many artisan shops and galleries interspersed amongst quaint historic homes.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
During the summer, you’ll find restaurants and cafes serving up fresh seafood dishes and cold brews. You really can’t go wrong no matter where you choose to eat, but we have a real soft spot for The Landmark Oyster House, which is located across the street from the Playhouse and boasts an inviting patio.
The Lobster Barn and Richard’s Seafood also serve up incredible eats, including the quinntessential PEI lobster roll and Casa Mia by the Sea offers a widely varied menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Make sure you pay a visit to Island Chocolates, which is housed in the former Wright Bros. General Store on Main St. (just a block down from Victoria Playhouse). The building is beautiful inside and outside, and the chocolates on offer are equally impressive. Might we suggest that their chocolate delights are a perfect pairing to live theatre – pack a few away to enjoy during the show!
Beach Vibes and Fun on the Water
Beach lovers and sea-faring souls will want to take advantage of Victoria’s seaside locale. Bring along a beach blanket and settle in for a stint of sun-bathing and water-wading at our main beach. Complete with washroom facilities, the beach is safe for young children, old folks and everyone in between!
You’ll probably meet Paul from By-the-Sea Kayaking when you visit the wharf. If you fancy getting out on the water in a kayak or stand-up paddle board, he’ll get you sorted. He also has an abundance of knowledge about the seaside environment – don’t be afraid to ask!
An Evening of Live Theatre
Finally, cap off your visit with an incredible evening of live theatre at Victoria Playhouse. Whether you’re falling out of your seat laughing or holding your breath as the drama unfolds, we hope you fall in love with the theatre experience all over again. After all, that’s why we open our doors every season – because we believe in the magic of live theatre.
Stay in Victoria
Victoria is the sort of place that grows more enchanting the longer you stay. As its residents know full well, this little village is the perfect respite from the busyness of life. Stay for the weekend and immerse yourself in seaside life, or choose Victoria as your home base for a longer PEI vacation. Its central location and proximity to the bridge make it ideal for day-trips to Charlottetown, Summerside and central PEI.
Victoria has a number of wonderful accommodation options, including The Orient Hotel, Victoria Cottages, and Victoria Garden Suite.
