Music Monday – The Janet McGarry Band

“An Evening of Bluegrass & Old Time Mountain Music” presented by the Janet McGarry Band

“A unique musical experience, this lively, family-friendly show presents bluegrass, gospel and country music in an acoustic setting, up close and personal with the audience, centred around a single condenser microphone, featuring banjo, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass, with tight three-part harmonies”.

For more than two decades, Janet McGarry has stood as a defining voice in bluegrass music, earning acclaim on stages at home and abroad. With thirteen celebrated recordings to her name, her work has consistently garnered awards, industry respect, and a devoted following. A proud member of the renowned Daughters of Bluegrass, Janet is featured on the acclaimed Bluegrass Bouquet (Blue Circle Records), the box set Pickin’ Like a Girl, and the compilation Bluegrass Bands / Helping Hands. She is also a five-time recipient of Female Vocalist of the Year at the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Awards—one of the region’s highest honours.

Over the years, she has built lasting friendships across the bluegrass community, but it is her connection with audiences that remains closest to her heart. Every shared moment—every story, every tear, every smile—lives on in her voice.  Known for its clarity, warmth, and emotional depth, Janet’s singing continues to draw comparisons to some of the most soulful voices in the genre. While each album explores new musical ground, her signature honesty remains at the core of every note.

Her latest release, Wearin’ the Blues, marks her thirteenth recording.   A powerful twelve-song collection filled with resilience, reflection, and hope—delivered with the sincerity that has become Janet’s hallmark. Blending country and bluegrass influences, this album is a standout addition to any collection.

Through the years, Janet’s music has taken her far from home, but her roots have never wavered. They run deep in her Island soil, in the people, the places, and the simple truths she holds close. Whether she’s sharing a song in a quiet room or standing before a sea of festival-goers, there’s a spark that feels both timeless and true — a genuine connection that draws people in. It’s the same spirit she carried in her earliest days, and one she still gives freely, with heart and conviction, every time she steps on stage.
