Press Play 3 – New Horizons
Join us for our third annual fundraising concert. The evening will celebrate 44 years of theatre in Victoria-by-the-Sea while looking toward an exciting new chapter.
The concert features an eclectic lineup of Island talent, including special guest Shane Pendergast, acoustic ensemble Woodsmoke, singer-songwriter Megan Ellands, step dancer Emily Hughes accompanied by Morgan Wagner, songwriter Peter Richards, and Reequal Smith and Oshun Dance Studios. The evening will also highlight the work of Victoria Playhouse Theatre School, with fun surprises and plenty of community spirit.
Pendergast, one of Atlantic Canada’s acclaimed folk troubadours, won Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the 2022 Music PEI Awards for Second Wind and released his fourth album, Winter Grace, in 2025. Woodsmoke brings five longtime friends together for an eclectic acoustic repertoire spanning five decades. Westmoreland singer-songwriter Megan Ellands has performed everywhere from kitchen parties to the Festival of Small Halls and CBMF. Cornwall step dancer Emily Hughes recently graduated from Bluefield High School and begins the Bachelor of Music Education program at UPEI this fall.
The event will also celebrate the future of the Playhouse. After 44 years as a Summer-only Theatre and Music Festival, Victoria Playhouse Inc. is moving toward year-round stewardship and programming at the historic Victoria Community Hall. Programming will gradually expand into the Spring and Fall seasons, creating new opportunities for Island artists and community members to create, learn, connect and experience the performing arts.
Funds raised will support the expansion and development of new and diverse theatre programming, as well as Theatre School classes and workshops for children and adults. The Theatre School’s recent productions include Charlotte’s Web, A Christmas Carol and The Secret Garden, with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe planned for December.
